1. What Data We Collect

When you use TagIt, we collect only the information necessary to provide and improve our service. This includes:

  • Account information — your email address and account credentials (passwords are securely hashed; we never see them in plain text).
  • Scan history — a record of items you've scanned and their associated pricing data, so you can track your inventory over time.
  • Uploaded photos — images you submit for item identification and pricing. These are processed by our AI pipeline and stored for your reference.
  • Usage data — basic analytics such as pages visited and features used, to help us understand how people use TagIt and where we can improve.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to deliver and enhance the TagIt experience:

  • Providing the service — identifying items from your photos, fetching pricing data, generating listings, and maintaining your scan history and inventory.
  • Improving accuracy — aggregated and anonymized data helps us improve pricing accuracy and product quality.
  • Communication — sending account-related updates, service announcements, and (with your consent) product newsletters. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time.
  • Security and compliance — monitoring for abuse, enforcing our Terms of Service, and complying with legal obligations.

3. Data Sharing Policy

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Period.

We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers — trusted third-party vendors who help us operate TagIt (such as cloud hosting, AI processing, and payment processing). These providers are contractually bound to use your data only as necessary to provide services to us.
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, we may disclose data to comply with a valid legal request.
  • Business transfers — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified before any such transfer.

4. Data Retention Policy

We retain your data for as long as your account remains active. This includes your scan history, uploaded photos, and account information — so you can always access your inventory and pricing history.

If you request deletion of your account, we will permanently delete all associated data within 30 days of your request. Anonymized data that cannot be reasonably linked back to you may be retained for analytical purposes.

Accounts that remain inactive for an extended period may be subject to our data minimization practices, but we will notify you before taking any action.

5. Your Rights

You have full control over your data. At any time, you can:

  • Access your data — view your scan history, uploaded photos, and account information directly from your dashboard.
  • Delete your data — request full account deletion, and we will permanently remove all associated data within 30 days.
  • Export your data — download a copy of your scan history, inventory, and listing data in a portable format.
  • Correct your data — update your account information or request corrections to any data we hold about you.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@tagithq.com. We will respond within 30 days.

6. Cookie Policy

TagIt uses only essential cookies — no advertising or tracking cookies from third parties. Specifically:

  • Authentication cookies — a session cookie is set when you log in to keep you authenticated as you navigate the site. This cookie is strictly necessary for the service to function.
  • Preference cookies — we may set a cookie to remember your display preferences (such as theme or language). These are functional only and contain no personal data.

We do not use cookies for advertising, cross-site tracking, or user profiling. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and provide notice.

7. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously. We implement industry-standard measures including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest.
  • Secure password hashing — we never store plain-text passwords.
  • Payment processing handled entirely by Stripe — we do not store credit card details on our servers.
  • Regular security reviews and access controls.

While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work continuously to keep your information safe.

8. Contact

9. Children's Privacy

TagIt is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately using the contact information above.

10. Changes to This Policy

TagIt may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Services, legal requirements, or business practices. When we make material changes, we will notify users by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. Users should review this page periodically for updates.
